On a rainy day, Julio Bunny is bored. He sees a friend reading a pirate book and thinks it looks interesting. The friend takes him to the library where a goat serves as the librarian. I can't help but wonder about a goat librarian. Wouldn't the goat eat all the paper? I'm not quite sure this book works although it does theoretically encourage reading. Other books do a better job addressing the topic.
This is a very short book for toddlers. It has short sentences and large bright pictures. As the blurb says, "Each short story features the charming cloud in simple situations, perfect for teaching babies and toddlers." I thought the pictures were cute and would attract the attention of little ones. My granddaughter liked the pictures and sat quietly while listening. In these stories, Olga helps others. When a bird plops on a tulip, it is very upset. Olga rains to clean the flower. My show more grandson, who is older, thought that was pretty funny. From their point of view, they really liked this book. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley. show less
The book "The New Puppy" is a book the highlights the upside and downside of taking home a new puppy. I did not enjoy this book. The illustrations are awful, they are not colorful, or even realistic at all. The language in this book is off putting. Some sentences are long, others are extremely short. It is an odd structure that doesn't allow for a proper rhythm. This will make it difficult for young readers to read this book with fluency. The overall message of this book is the main reason I show more do not like this book. The main idea of this book is that now matter how bad the puppy is the boy loves him. I like the idea of unconditional love, but the boy states that he will love the puppy even after the boys father tries to reach the puppy right from wrong. I thought the overall message was cluttered and unclear. I would not have this book in my future classroom. show less
I like how this book incorporated educating students on seasons as well as using manners and being polite. The tree in this book is greedy and selfish in the beginning, however becomes caring and shares with his friends at the end. The moral of this story is to be unselfish, and that there is always enough to go around. Reading this book to students would keep them interested while also learning a valuable lesson. I would definitely read this book in my future classroom.
