This book gave an okay introduction to Chi but had too much of a narrow, individualistic self-help vibe. The inclusion of exercises to flow Chi was a neat addition. While I like the idea of life energy and respect its practice, Chi just isn't for me!
The concept of Chi is central to the disciplines of Tai Chi and Chi Gong. It is usually described as a form of energy, but many details are often left in obscurity. In the succinctly entitled "Chi" Master Waysun Liao clearly defines the concept and discusses its relationship to yin and yang. Liao describes the way in which the artificial aspects of the modern world separate people from contact with their Chi. This in turn weakens this source of energy and causes us to develop a false sense show more of self. The recommended corrective is to practice meditation and moving mediation, which are designed to allow us to perceive Chi and to enhance it. The later part of the book consists of illustrations of Tai Chi movements, but these are better learned from video sources than from books, even well illustrated ones. show less
