At last, a crocheted sweater book that isn't Granny Squares!! This author treats crochet as an elegant & useful craft! The sweaters range from simple to complex. Some look knitted, some you'd swear are woven! I love the jackets & Men's sweaters included in the book. This is a must for you crocheters out there who've always wanted a sweater!! The only problem is the lack of larger sizing.
High fashion clothing for women and children are shown in photographs of the finished product with complete directions for creating one for yourself. The first chapter covers the basics of stitches and shorthand used in the directions. Each chapter becomes progressively more difficult as more skill is required of the reader. I have made one of these sweaters myself, added a skirt, and it was an instant hit as a 1960's style Jackie Kennedy type of outfit. I have been crocheting for about 40 show more years now, learning first in France, then relearning in America. The instructions are easier than most that I have read. The reader also needs to know how to knit for some designs as knitting is used to add a decorative border or finish to the edges of the garment. show less
I bought the book in case I ever wanted to play with one needle again. I made something way back in the 1970s when I was a sea and needed a project and I haven't attempted anything since. Stephanie Pearl McPhee would probably be discusted with me. There are some pretty neat patterns in this book and it surprised me just what can be done with crochet in garment making. Maybe one day....
This book starts out covering the basic stitches and crochet hook gauges, with a handy chart that converts British and American "crochet code" abbreviations. Many different sweaters and home decor items are given as projects with a section on hand made toys for babies and small children. All are small projects and capable of being completed over a few days, even by beginners.
