Illumination by Terry McGarry
I have mixed feelings about this book. It is well-written with a unique take on the magic of triads, with some intriguing characters... but it is overly long, way too violent in creepy ways, the ending is very unsatisfying, and I just did not like the protagonist as much as I liked other characters (Heff, mainly).
