Not bad as true ghost stories go but not much of a travel guide. Most of the buildings were not open to the public so they couldn't be visited without calling ahead and hoping that the owner wasn't sick and tired of ghost hunters. Readers weren't even told where some of them were because the owners wanted privacy. Some of the buildings had already been sold by the time the book was written; the old owners gave the author information but the new owners didn't want visitors. Add that to the show more ghosts that were exorcised by the time the book was written and there was virtually no place in this guide to haunted America left to visit. show less
Book that covers most of the US states with true life ghost stories. The author is a reporter and he has done the book in a format in that vain. He has conducted personal interviews with the people involved. It speaks more true to life than most haunted house books with the first person interviews. They range anywhere from haunted houses to bars and restaurants with a few ghostly animals thrown in as well. The book presents itself as a tour guide to haunted places but most of the locations show more are privately owned and would probably not like ghost hunters just appearing on their doorstep. show less
A book of legends recounting supernatural phenomenon and the ghosts of both humans and animals of America and the U.K. The tales include the Headless Lady of Essex, the murderous hand of Paterson, New Jersey, silent actor Valentino's cursed ring, the ghost of Marilyn Monroe at her last residence, and Lady Wonder, the Canadian telepathic horse who solved murder of young Ronnie Weitcamp for the police. These stories would certainly spook young readers.

Collection of stories about haunted houses. The author describes the hauntings that are going on. Many have pictures of the houses in question. Entertaining for the most part. Author also goes on to say whether the places are still experiencing hauntings and whom the ghost(s) may be.
