A very enjoyable, mostly light-weight Christmas film. The overall plot is predictable, and the ending a tad contrived... but the acting is excellent, and the three children - Miles, Mel and Lilee - are excellent. There's a bit of humour here and there amidst quite a poignant, stressful start to a film about a newly destitute mother attempting to look after her two daughters and stepson.

We liked it very much, and look forward to seeing it again in a few years' time during the Christmas show more season.

Break out the popcorn---it's a double feature! In The Derby Stallion, 15-year-old Patrick meets a horse trainer who encourages him to enter the Derby Cup. Can he beat the town bully? And in Thicker Than Water, a faded photograph leads Natalie Jones to a bittersweet discovery about her late father's past. Dove approved (12 ). (PG.) Approx. 3 hours total.
Walking Thunder

John Denver, James Read, Chief Ted Think Elk and David Tom star in this family outdoor adventure tale of the American west. When Jacob's family gets caught in a terrible blizzard, their covered wagon provides little shelter. To make matters worse, the wild west of 1850 is filled with danger! Cutthroat fur trappers steal their horses and then plot to ambush the helpless pioneer family. Jacob meets a friend in the wilderness - a kindly mountain man who offers his help to the show more pioneers. But the greatest challenge lies ahead - Jacob must confront the wild grizzly bear known as Walking Thunder!

Long Road Home

Seth is a twelve-year old city boy that is sent to live on a farm in Utah with his grandparents. When a giant grizzly attacks their neighbor's sheep, Seth's grandfather takes matters into his own hands so that his livestock do not also fall prey to the bear. Seth and his grandfather take to the mountains hot on the trail of the animal, but the bear has already set his eyes on the unsuspecting duo! It's a man and a boy against the untamed wilderness in this gripping adventure that stars Michael Ansara, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and T.J. Lowther.
