Talkin' C. B. DeMille (Ready When YOU Are CB!...) in Pro and Con (July 2014)

The life of Moses, skipping most of the stuff in the Bible.
It's an awful movie, but it's a reasonably entertaining sort of awful, with plenty of opportunity for exclaiming "sweet fancy Moses" at the screen. Surprisingly, it took nearly three hours before I started to get bored. I can't figure out what audience it's intended for: it's too preachy for the non-religious, and too grossly inaccurate for the religious.

A woman leaves her husband for another man.
1.5/4 (Meh).
Everything except for the story is executed smoothly, which is pretty good for 1919. But a melodramatic cautionary tale against divorce was never going to result in a good movie.

****If you wish to avoid the Korean subtitles, you must go to subtitles and choose "None." When you choose "Play Movie," the whole overture of the movie will play for several minutes and this will be followed by the introduction with credits for a couple more minutes. Then the movie will begin.****
This fictional account of the Biblical story of Samson may give the viewer some sense of the biblical character with his shortcomings. The movie lacks the story of Samson's birth--an important show more element of the Biblical story. It depicts Delilah as accompanying Samson during events in the Biblical story where she is not mentioned and was likely not present. The scene of Samson killing the lion is particularly impressive as is the final act of Samson. For those who love the stories of the Bible, this film, though having its flaws, is nevertheless worth watching. show less

2026 movie #59. 1939. Former army buddies (McCrea and Preston) find themselves on opposite sides of the law and in love with the same woman (Stanwyck) in this probably fanciful history of the building of the transcontinental railroad in 1862. Good adventure story.
