Robert P. Lightner

Having no familiarity with the author, I was unsure what to expect from Angels, Satan, and Demons but, overall, I was impressed. Very convincingly, Robert Lightner sheds the light of Scripture onto a popular subject often distorted by subjectivism, New Age spirituality, and biblical eisegesis. Even though his case suffers mildly at times from a dispensational hermeneutic, his commitment to the Scriptures as the basis for understanding the spiritual world makes this a worthwhile read. One show more minor criticism, I have is that I sometimes wished that he would have fleshed out some of his points a little more and I would also like to know how he would explain someone's perceived experiences with angels which do not line up with the Bible's teachings? Aside from this, I found Lightner's book informative and very readable. I especially profited from his arguments against the unbiblical "deliverance" ministries and popular spiritual warfare theology. I am glad to have Angels, Satan, and Demons in my library. show less

The Last Days Handbook is a quality entry-level introduction to the various views of eschatology held by evangelicals. It is an easily accessible read that will acquaint students with the different views of the millennium, rapture, and Biblical covenants. Along the way, the author makes a plea for peace among those who disagree. This plea feels a bit overdone in light of the author's obvious sympathies. While he announces at the beginning that he will not make his personal convictions known, show more they come to light fairly quickly. It is a minor flaw in a work that otherwise successfully accomplishes its task. At the conclusion of each chapter is a brief paragraph pointing to works for further study as well as an annotated bibliography. These are helpful additions. show less

This book is a fairly light weight presentation of the epistles listed. It is not inaccurate, but it doesn't really get to the major issues. In fairness, it was probably written as a basic Bible study. For more in depth study, it loses value quickly.
