This is a book about co-sleeping, i.e. having children sleep in the same bed as parents. I'm a big fan of co-sleeping (it worked well for me and my family), and this book offers a lot of suggestions and support for parents considering this option. (Or, for parents who are already convinced, but who would like some moral support on an issue that isn't always popular in U.S. society in general). The book is not necessarily the best written parenting book ever, but it gave me more confidence show more about the decsion I'd made, and the knowledge that I was not the only person who'd made this particular parenting choice. show less
This is one of the best books for new parents, especially new mothers. Tine Thevenin is supportive and encouraging to new parents who want to follow their hearts and instincts when carrying for their children. She gives credit to the unique and different parenting styles of men and women and acknowledges that both are needed to raise a healthy, happy individual. More importantly, she tells mothers that they should not have to fight off their "mothering instincts" or follow a guide book to show more parenting. She praises women for their often innate ability to raise a child without all the outside advice show less
Discusses pros and cons of children sleeping with their parents and/or siblings. Historical perspectives, as well as personal experiences, provide very helpful reading for parents who worry about sleep problems.
