I really enjoyed this collection of stories from Governor Huckabee's life that remind us that sometimes simple is better. They also show us the depth of his faith in Jesus Christ. They challenge us to remember the true meaning of Christmas. One of my favorite portions of the book was the introduction. I would have enjoyed hearing him preach that message! Throughout the book, the Governor made reference to many members of his family. As a genealogist, I wanted to go hunting for his ancestors show more as most of his information on the distant generations appears to have been passed down through oral tradition rather than having been properly documented. I still loved the stories of his family and of himself. One of the most touching stories involved the last days of a family member who died to cancer. Having lost my mother to cancer in the last year, I found myself in tears in that section. While I doubt liberal Democrats would enjoy the book, I do think there are many other classes of persons to whom this book would appeal. The stories are touching. It's a great Christmas read! show less
Character Makes a Difference was published as a preparation for Huckabee's bid for president in the 2008 election. It is an updated version of his 1997 book Character is the Issue, with some inclusions from another book Living Beyond Your Lifetime.
This book reads like a sermon on the evils of secularism, with special focus on the evils of homosexuality, abortion and drugs. For the general voter in the primary elections and caucuses this book will provide little extra information for you to show more help your decision making process. If you are a Huckabee supporter, or are thinking seriously about supporting him I would recommend this book. Though from an outsiders perspective it felt a bit to heavy with pandering, insiders will no doubt enjoy reading the insights that have lead Huckabee to his firm stances and deeply rooted convictions.
Of course there is some depth within this book about which particular character lessons Huckabee has drawn from his Christianity. Though living the golden rule and striving for prudence are worthwhile endeavors, what is missing from Huckabee and evidenced throughout the book, is his complete and utter aversion to Mill's principle of individual liberty, "That the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not sufficient warrant."
In opposition to this, Huckabee supports the notion that for the good of the United States, Christianity must be spread throughout its citizenry, government and system of laws. This book is his case for why he believes this. Personally I was not convinced and I doubt many who are not already true believers will be. show less

Do the Right Thing: Inside the Movement That's Bringing Common Sense Back to America by Mike Huckabee
Do The Right Thing by Former Republican Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee was a GREAT book!
It covers Huckabee’s campaign, the people, the places, the commercial flights. It’s a fascinating look into the “Greenest” campaign for President that ended sadly without Huckabee being nominated as the Republican-choice for President of the United States.
Secretly I wished I’d see reference to “that nice family in Wisconsin” that Huckabee met along the campaign trail, but I enjoyed the show more book even without such a reference.
Huckabee lays out in his book the idea that “Doing the Right Thing” is somewhat a ‘thing of the past’ and that our Nation needs to get back to that basic idea and attitude. “Vertical Politics”, the “FairTax” and other great political positions kept the pages turning for me.
I had trouble putting this one down and was delighted that Huckabee’s political-language was still simple-enough for a non Poli-Sci-Guy like myself to enjoy and learn from!
I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Mike Huckabee in the political realm. I’m looking forward to hearing, seeing, and reading much more from this fascinating politician! show less

Quit Digging Your Grave with a Knife and Fork: A 12-Stop Program to End Bad Habits and Begin a Healthy Lifestyle by Mike Huckabee
Despite what you think about Gov. Huckabee's politics, you can't deny his success in weight loss. He gives some good tidbits in this book, but be warned that his approach is a cold turkey approach that might not be right for everyone.
