A book accompanying a 1998 Vatican traveling exhibit. Interesting essays on angelic depictions in Catholic art and their composition as spiritual entities. Written from a Roman Catholic perspective but of value to anyone interested in the phenomena of angelic beings which populate the material universe artistically or otherwise. The authors are experts in their respective fields.
This book is a pictorial catalog of a traveling exhibit of artworks of many kinds that center on angels as a theme. Each item is pictured in color with a description of the work itself, while the objects are grouped by sub theme, such as saints, guardians, and consolers. There is an extensive collection of pre-Christian art showing the previous history of spirits and winged beings in pagan art.
Saint Peter and the Vatican: The Legacy of the Popes presents unique objects illustrating the Vatican's impact on history and culture through 2,000 years since the time of Saint Peter. Many of these objects have never left the Vatican or been on public view.
