Having just recently seen the 1957 original with Glenn Ford, I didn't believe this 2007 remake with Russell Crowe could possibly match it. But I really am not sure having seen both now which one I prefer. The 2007 film is darker, more violent, grittier--and more complex. I'm don't know which is closer to the original Elmore Leonard story.

Both films have the same basic plot, mostly the same characters, at times even the same lines. But, among other differences in the remake there's a show more father/son dynamic completely missing in the version with Ford. I still think Ford's performance is the more amazing--but not by much--Russell Crowe is a fine actor--a favorite in fact, but he brings a very different energy to the role. In any case, unlike a High Noon remake I saw recently, I wasn't constantly thinking, oh, what a waste. Instead I found it just as involving. show less
An otherwise solid (if a bit dour) film saddled with a rather lacking finale and conclusion that takes a bit of the air out of it. Still, in the wildly uneven X-Men franchise, this is one of the better installments.

Indiana Jones returns as a broken down old man being forced into retirement. He's lost his son to the war and his wife to the loss of his son. Along come his long forgotten god daughter asking about the Dial of Destiny. She wants to sell it to pay of her depts in North Africa. Also showing up is a Nazi who wants to use it to go back in time and replace Hitler. Indy chases his god daughter to North Africa trying to recover the dial. In the end they find the 2nd part of the dial and end up show more going back in time and meeting Archimedes.

Not a bad movie. I don't think it measures up to the original three Indiana Jones movies. Didn't like the way the portrayed Indy in the beginning as a broken down old man. I really don't think that's the way he would go.

Interesting story with Logan and Professor Xavier having to deal with ageing and saving themselves and the future and how rampant science without ethics can be quite problematic. I could see this happening in a country without limits on some of the research and how we really need to be careful with what we do in this area.

Logan is working as a chauffeur and trying to leave his past behind when it all goes wrong when he's approached by a woman who wants him to help. This starts a cascade that show more will change everything. show less
