I was super into this until they did a genocide and juistified it with “well, we don’t have the resources to be as principled as we used to be.” My dudes. “Do not do a genocide” is not some unrealistic principle, it is the bare minimum of being a civilization. DO NOT DO A FUCKING GENOCIDE. I cannot believe I actually have to say this.
This did at least have plenty of the actual thing it promised on the cover (Green Lantern fighting Aliens), and the first issue with Hal was genuinely show more great. Just such a pity that they had to go all edge and no point with the Kyle Rayner issues. show less

I came across this edition during the annual book fair and what got my attention was sheer epicness of the art, fantastic black and white panels and style that reminded me of Nathan Never, especially first few episodes and gorgeous covers. But since this was Silver Surfer, I was like, this is great, finally someone is doing this kind of gorgeous art in the US superhero comic.
And then when I started going through it I had that slap-the-head moment - artist in question was the one that set the show more foundation for atmospheric cyberpunk world visuals of Nathan Never. H**y c**p! Since I am not person that follows all forums and events related to comics I was surprised to learn that Claudio Castellini has actually made quite a career in US. And man his art ..... pure eye candy. Level of details, movie-like panel organization and dynamic...... pure delight!
It reminds me a lot of Al Williams' works (John Buscema remaining the main influence, definitely), there is always something going on the pages, in the background..... there is that feeling of wild frontier where both good and bad guys are magnificent creatures, there is the gray zone and moral ambiguity but goodness is never downplayed, and every day is an adventure and excursion into the unknown. And black and white panels, everything is so crisp and just popping off the pages.
This is a one-off book, produced in the large format and in beautiful print. Shout-out to the publisher, they truly did a wonderful job.
That being said if you expect complex story you might be put down a bit. This is one off book in an "old fashioned" action adventure style where goal was to tell the story in a dynamic, visual style. In the background of the relatively simple adventure story (hunt for the treasures of the old civilization) we are given beautiful visuals that make justice to the Silver Surfer universe. Just take a look at the Kree battleship scenes or Galactus' own space-ship....... magnificent.
Highly recommended to Silver Surfer fans and especially fans of gorgeous black and white art. show less

There is something funny about any media that has the central theme of female empowerment embodied by a character that is a teenage boy's wet dream.
Witchblade is an intriguing work and has me interested, but there is something about it that keeps me at a distance. It may be the drip-feeding of plot, or the fact that I'm reading the books whilst also watching the TV series (the differences between the two are noticeable), either way I look forward to reading more of this series, if for show more nothing more than to confirm whether I like it or not. show less

Nothing like a good old Catholic conspiracy story, especially one that involves Devil worship and sinister cover-ups. Here's a twist on the ol' Holy Blood and the Holy Grail/Da Vinci Code/Rex Mundi idea that Jesus and Mary Magdalene had children before he died. In this book, the child was a daughter and the daughters of the bloodline persist to this day with special powers against evil. Special powers that the Church has used over the years to fulfill its own ends. The latest incarnation is show more Patience, a Magdalena who spurns what the church has become. She is manipulated by Cardinal Innocent and her Knights of Malta trainer Kristof to return to the fold to investigate an Anti-Christ. The church is depicted as corrupt and self-serving, though the source of the Magdalena's power is never questioned. show less
