David Evanier's biography of Woody Allen is a well-written and thorough work. While clearly written from a positive perspective it is still a balanced assessment of both his work and his life and how they meet.
In discussing the juncture of his life and his work Evanier makes clear that while Allen uses a lot of his life in his films and in the characters he plays the character is not a strict translation of who Woody is. Unfortunately many viewers make the mistake of thinking the two are show more essentially interchangeable as far as attitude and beliefs. This often leads to a harsher than necessary assessment of his personal life.
This is a nice biography that is well-researched while remaining accessible to any reader interested in Allen. Definitely recommended for any reader.

Great biography of singer Tony Bennett published about 12 years before his death in 2023. Lots of interviews with those who worked with him. Great summaries of his albums and a good discography.
