this is incredibly non-user friendly. Finnish is a very hard language to begin with and Mr Whitney would scare off all but the born linguists, with his deep considerations of grammar (4 different forms of each word to learn from Chapter 1 onwards!) and obscure vocabulary- chapter 2 teaches us such vital words as 'to bleat' and 'eaves' when we have not yet learnt such basics as 'hello'.
HOWEVER if you're already well on the way to mastering the language, this does provide a brilliant grammar show more to refer to.
I spent hours struggling with this book as a teenager, and did acquire a sort of pidgin Finnish. But I'm sure there are much better resources available nowadays! show less
