Summary: This book is written for beginner readers. Although it was very simple, I thought it described taste in an accurate way and provided students with a tangible way to talk about what they tasted. I also felt like this book was a good introduction into teaching about how to use adjectives in writing.
Thoughts: I may not use this book as a teaching tool for all students, but I would like to have this series in my classroom. I think some students would find it very interesting and it is show more a good level for beginning readers.
Use/Strategy:

This is a great informational book for children in the primary grades. It is simple and easy to read, while at the same time it is teaching about taste. The pictures within the story are helpful and add even more to the overall learning. The last page even goes into further detail about taste and the various parts that help with it like the tongue, nose and taste buds. I think it goes into enough detail so that the children show more can learn without going over their heads. show less
This book introduces the reader to all different things to smell. There are simple sentence structures and whole page images for readers to use their imagination with. This would be great for young readers, it's part of a series of sense books.
The book Taste describes one of the five senses. Some foods can taste good or bad. Food can tasted salty, sweet, strong, and sometimes like nothing at all. There is a scientific description in the back with a labeled picture of a tongue. This helps the reader understand the different parts of the tongue and what they are used for. I give this book five out of five stars because Maria Rius does a good job of describing what taste is in a simple way with several illustrations. I like how she show more highlights the vocabulary words such as: tongue, taste buds, sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and saliva. I would use this book in a science lesson to introduce the five senses. I think this book is appropriate for K-2 grades. show less
