This is an outstanding, 'coffee table' style book about the pilots and air warfare in World War I. Due to its length, 192 pages and excellent use of photographs and illustrations, it does not go into any aspect of the air war in depth. It does talk about many of the major aces, including Guynemer, Nungasser, Fonck, Richthofen, Mannock, Rickenbacker (Rickenbacher) and Frank Luke and mentions many others. Some time is spent on the planes and tactics, but this is about the pilots. A good overview.
1111 This Fabulous Century Sixty Years of American Life Volume I 1900-1910, by the editors of Time-Life Books (read 12 Apr 1971) I'm not sure this is not a non-book, but I have gone through it with sheer delight and nostalgia. Why? I didn't live then. No, but the appearances of the people and the kinds of pictures are so familiar, because of the "picture box" we had at home. This book chronicles the time in "mood" and I enjoyed it muchly.
