Since joining The Met in 1997, Mia Fineman has organized numerous exhibitions spanning the history of photography, including Apollo's Muse: The Moon in the Age of Photography (2019), Talking Pictures: Camera-Phone Conversations Between Artists (2017), Faking It: Manipulated Photography Before Photoshop (2012), On Photography: A Tribute to Susan Sontag (2006), and Other Pictures: Vernacular Photographs from the Thomas Walther Collection (2000). She has written on art and culture for the New York Times, Slate, Photograph, and other publications. Mia studied art history at Yale University, where she received a PhD in 2001 with a dissertation on German modernist photography. - Places of residence

Gabriel Orozco is renowned for creating work that highlights the elegant and lyrical beauty found in the everyday. His art has taken the form of sculpture, installations, drawing, photography, and video. Orozco photographs things as he finds them, "self-arranged" on the streets, or in found situations in which he has gently intervened. Previous publications of his work have highlighted the interconnectedness between the various aspects of his work, or have focused solely on his sculptures or show more videos. This book is the first ever to focus solely on his photographs, with an accompanying introductory text and biographical material on the artist. It clarifies the distinction between the photographs that Orozco considers as independent artworks and the often equally beautiful photographs which he regards as documentation of sculptures or performances pieces, wherein the latter are the actual artwork. show less
