This has a lot more info than the last little travel booklet I read, but that was specifically Rome and this is all of Italy. This is meant as a travel companion when exploring the ancient buildings still (kind of) standing in Italy. This makes a good souvenir too.
I found myself skimming this one, I just don't have the energy to really get into it today, but what I did read was informative and interesting.
I am especially sad about how desecrated The Golden House Of Nero has become. Not a show more speck of it's glory is left, just the walls. But, that's more than can be said for a majority of the structures detailed here- most buildings are just pillars now. And I find myself wondering, where did all the statues go? Destroyed? Crumbling dust? It's vexing to me. show less

The Roads of the Romans (Getty Trust Publications: J. Paul Getty Museum) by Romolo Augusto Staccioli
The book contains great photos of all aspects of the Roman road system, but the text doesn't have much depth. I was left wishing for more information on how they constructed roads, bridges, and tunnels. If you're looking for a fun and quick read on roman roads, this is your book. If you desire an in-depth text, look elsewhere.
The Roads of the Romans (Getty Trust Publications: J. Paul Getty Museum) by Romolo Augusto Staccioli
Read for a course on travel in antiquity. A quick, informative read, with vividly gorgeous photos as accompaniment.
Our tour guide used this book while showing us the Forum and the Colosseum and we liked it so much that we each got one. Now that I'm home, I'm finding it helpful for labeling my photos.
