One of the most innovative and interesting characters to make a place for himself in the 1960s British art scene, Hamish Fulton developed a personal art form based on walking. Through photographs and texts, colors and words, this artists's book represents the space and time covered by Fulton during a 43-day coast-to-coast walk. On the pavements, roads, and paths of Portugal, Spain, the Basque Region, the Pyrenees, and France, Fulton trod a trail that started at the mouth of the Douro river show more in Porto and ended at the delta of the river Ebro in Catalonia. show less

The pages are filled with bright red line drawings of symbols and the outlines of mountains, trees, and energies. Each drawing is accompanied by a brief phrase that describes its inspiration.
