People are mysteriously disappearing in a picturesque Cornish village. Coinciding with the disappearances is the return, from a period of study in Vienna, of Doctor Peter Blood (Kieron Moore). Blood has developed a Frankenstein-like fascination with reviving the dead and has fashioned a lab deep within an abandoned tin mine. Obsessed with his quest he begins to sink into paranoia and madness, but still has the time to romance the lovely Linda Parker (Hazel Court), the nurse of his father, Dr show more Robert Blood (Ian Hunter) the kindly village GP. This is a moody little effort that's nicely directed and paced by Sidney J. Furie. The location photography is excellent with some great clifftop landscape photography. Cinematographer Stephen Dade gives the film a nice look with some excellent colour photography that varies between the lurid lab set and the peaceful village scenes. Future director Nicolas Roeg is the camera operator on the film. There are some surprisingly gory surgery sequences in the film interspersed with some equally surprising philosophical dialogue about the moral consequences of Blood's experiments. Kieron Moore is good as the obsessive and dangerous Doctor Blood as is Hazel Court, who has a bit more to do than simple love interest. Although the film never really catches fire it is still a nicely constructed, well acted and, at times, quite thoughtful horror thriller. show less
2022 movie #203. 1972. Diana Ross was excellent in this, both singing and acting (Oscar nom) but the movie was ultimately disappointing as it had hardly any connection to Billy Holiday's actual life. Her recording career completely ignored. Instead her drug use was highlighted.
2023 movie #162. 1965. Harry Palmer (Caine) is a British spy looking for a kidnapped nuclear scientist. Designed to be a more gritty and realistic story than the James Bond movies. Pretty good. It helped make Michael Caine and international star.
The Man of Steel crusades for nuclear disarmament and meets Lex Luthor's latest creation, Nuclear Man.
