Michael Bay (1) (1965–)

The combination of a reasonably grounded (over the top action aside) action thriller and absolutely ridiculous identity confused farce surprised me, but it works tolerably well. The film shines whenever Smith and Lawrence get to bicker or jibber-jabber, but is unfortunately otherwise a bit rote. I found some quite memorable lines and character moments sprinkled throughout it made it worth my while, though.

2023 movie #178. 2022. After a bank heist goes spectacularly wrong, 2 robbers hijack an ambulance carrying the cop they shot. You know. sometimes you just want a movie featuring an ambulance being chased by the entire LA police force. No thinking involved. This is that movie.

2021 movie #96. 2019. Just what you want from a Michael Bay movie. Lots of explosions, car chases, smart-assed dialogue and bullets flying. But no nuance, minimal plot (kill the bad guys) and no sense.

Terrorists with chemical weapons use Alcatraz as a fortress.

I know it's a lot to ask of a Michael Bay movie, but I really wish anything in it made any sense. If just, like, one thing could make sense. That would be nice.
