...I couldn't put the book down!!! Anyone looking for pearls of wisdom, and I mean there are some rugged blue mother oysters of wisdom in this one, but 'Maybe You Never Cry Again' will give it to you straighter and realer than a stand-up routine of any length could ever tell.
A well put-together memoir from start to finish. The reading is not only rare and raw, but comes from a man with a heart as tender as it was big. The wisdom doesn't lay flat, but rather stands up to the telling of a show more persuasive entertainer. Told in crisp, jaunting, Bernie Mac fashion it's all in here; the values Bernie placed on becoming a man (stemming from his grandparents, his mother, and even his brother), his marriage & marriage, friends & friendships, his daughter & raising children, and how perspicaciously he modeled these values to steer his career. There is so much in here, and the book at approximately 300 pages is filled with pictures as well.
Overall the pacing is smooth and in quite a few spots especially touching. The comedy (true to Bernie Mac form) is fiercely honest, which includes many clips of his performances... some well-known, others less known. And the narration is unfailingly, over the top, all around inspirational. My gosh, can't nothing be more powerful than a man who values family! show less

Rest in Peace Bernie Mac. You truly were a hilarious, innovative, and remarkable man.
In his autobiography entitled I Ain't Scared of You, Bernie Mac tells what his upbringing was like and how it turned him into the man he was. It would be the understatement of the century to say that Bernie Mac's childhood was no picnic. Between having no father, fighting, trying drugs, and living in a bad neighborhood, he was not made into a man. He made himself into one. With anecdotes that will make you show more teary eyed with laughter and anecdotes that will make you teary eyed with sadness, I Ain't Scared of You is a wonderful novel (although not grammatically!) that shows what was important to this great man and why he did what he did. Rest in Peace Bernie Mac. show less

After reading this book, I have a lot of respect for Bernie Mac. When I saw the title, I was expecting something entirely different than what I got. What I got was a wonderful autobiography about a guy who really pulled himself up by his bootstraps. What struck me also was how hard working he was and how he put his family first. If you like a good autobiography, like I do, read this, regardless if you're a Bernie Mac fan or not.
