A sympathetic and balanced look at the phenomenon of rebellious youth subculture since the 1930s or so, ranging from fashion, music, language and entertainment, to disaffection, cultural clashes, crime, and violence. Though particularly focusing on the phenomena of "Teddy Boys", and the role of the welfare state in modulating working class youth culture and behaviour, other European equivalents including the Blouson Noir are also brought in for comparison, together with examples from further show more afield.
Overall an interesting read from an historical, psychological as well as sociological point of view, with political and economical relevance lessons that are relevant to emerging youth trends now. show less
