While the idea of destination art, that is art fixed in place, is a somewhat open category which encompasses all buildings, monuments and installations, this beautiful book presents new, unconventional sightseeing ideas. Of the title's 200 destinations about sixty are treated to a six page spread of description and beautiful photographs each. I have already planned to visit several lesser known sites.
Destination Art provides a highly accessible chronological survey of the world’s most important large-scale and public works of twentieth- and twenty-first-century art. Encompassing massive land and environmental works, extensive sculpture parks, magnificent architectural follies, site-specific installations, even whole towns turned over to the display of art, this book chronicles works that have achieved near-mythical status since they were created.
