What I expected: some useful compendium of the basics from the "for Dummies" series.
What I found some useless compendium of apparently random chapters lifted straight from the "for Dummies" series. Not first chapters, which might have been better, but random *middle* chapters, which means that what you're reading refers to and tries to build on chapters you don't have access to.
As a reference book, this fails miserably. As an introduction to the "for Dummies" series, or some attempt to get show more people to buy more of them, it fails worse.
