Reviews
A brief, accessible but scholarly introduction to the Celts, and especially the Irish Celts. It includes legendary, archaeological and linguistic information, as well as accounts from Roman and Mediaeval scholars. A decent book, though it starts out seeming to offer a coherent narrative and then mostly seems to just split off into themed chapters.
This was a very interesting read giving a much greater rounding to the career and life of Edward Daly than that known before other than in the Irish revolutionary network and among Sinn Fein and the Clarke and Daly families. The importance of the familial ties to Limerick shines through as Ned follows the Daly pact with Tom Clarke's assistance to become an active revolutionary. It is apparent that he was well-regarded as a commander of one of the outposts in Dublin and continues to have a show more plaque on City Hall which was also part of his command structure. It I, apparent that Kathleen his sister saw not only her husband, Tom's legacy, as important to fulfill but also Ned's and that of her Limerick family as she would sit in City Hall herself as it's first female Lord Mayor in a nod to the Proclamation guaranteeing equal suffrage, equal rights and religious freedom among other protections. show less
