This scientifically-accurate narrative completes the life cycle of Katies caterpillar. Anxiety will keep children turning the pages until Katies ingenuity provides a platform for the butterflys first fluttering flight.
Jordan and Kris experience a bullying incident that many other children may be able to identify with. Authenticity is enhanced by the use of the present tense
This is the second book in the series about Little Chimp. In this story, he is learning to climb a tree for the first time. Mother Chimp encourages him and helps him to succeed.
“The Hare and the Tortoise”
Summary: “The Hare and the Tortoise” by Jenny Giles is a traditional fantasy. It is a story about a hare and a tortoise that are going to compete in a race. The hare thinks that he is going to out run the tortoise, but on the other hand the tortoise says no way. The arrogance of the hare appeared when he took a nap during the race. Because of thinking skillfully the tortoise ultimately wins the race.
Personal Response: I think the competitive nature of the show more story made it intriguing. I encourage everyone to read this book. I love the fact that the tortoise wins, it is almost like rooting for the “little” guy. This is a great fiction book.
Extension: After reading this book with a classroom, the students’ assignment would be to write a review on it. Another assignment for older students can be to write a motivational and encouraging short story. show less
