Ancient Science: 40 Time-Traveling, World-Exploring, History-Making Activities for Kids by Jim Wiese
Jim Wiese creates a great way to teach students how the ancient cultures did their own experiments in Ancient Science. The book does not have a story line. It is more of a learning experience through doing activities and experiments done by the ancients.
The book is divided into the different cultures. Each different culture has different experiments that help to tell the stories of how they saw things. Each section of the book starts with a brief description of the culture and then goes into show more the different activities that tie into that culture.
I feel that this book is an excellent learning tool for a classroom. I am very excited to get my own classroom and use it with my students. From my experience in the different classrooms I could see that the children are more into hands on activities and Wiese creates a book that gets the students learning through using their own hands and brains.
Wiese has created two other books that follow the same ideas of Ancient Science. He wrote a book called Sports Science and another called Weird Science. All of Wiese’s books teach the children how to use the different cultures and areas through the use of activities and little experiments for the children to try.
I feel Wiese’s books would be best in an upper elementary level, 3rd-5th grade. The children would have a better understanding of what an ancient culture is. The children would also be able to handle most of the experiments done throughout the book.
I love his idea of not having the children sit down and listen to a story. I feel they learn a lot more when you get their hands in it. The children learn how the ancient cultures did everything by doing the same processes themselves. show less

Spy Science is an activity book that provides students with activities about the science related to being a spy. This book provides many interesting and fun activities and describes the science behind them. This book would be good for elementary students and I would put it on the bookshelf in a classroom. I rate this book four out of five because it is interesting and has good activities that students can easily do.
Head to Toe Science: Over 40 Eye-Popping, Spine-Tingling, Heart-Pounding Activities That Teach Kids about the Human Body by Jim Wiese
This book seems to be like a 5-7 grade textbook. It is very informational and also has lab experiences included. The first chapter focuses on Gray Matter, chapter two is about your senses, chapter three is about your digestive system, chapter 4 focuses on your respiratory system, chapter 5 is about the circulatory system, chapter 6 talks about the skeletal system, chapter 8 is focused on the reproductive system, and lastly chapter 9 is about the skin. I might use this in like a 5th-grade show more class by drawing from the experiments in the book. show less
