The author asks how can one enter into another's suffering without being overwhelmed, drained, useless? Cassidy deals frankly with her own experiences of burnout. Again and again, however, she describes the experience of grace and forgiveness where she finds her humanity affirmed and redeemed through the gifts of those she serves
A collection of essays on caring and suffering and Christianity, from an author who has been a nun, been tortured in Chile and run a hospice. The section on how to live in the world when trying to be true to God's call (and the importance of rest and friends and not burning out) stuck with me.
