I should really buy this instead of checking it out of the library constantly. Maybe I'll start my jacket one of these days!

ETA: Now that I'm 3/4 of the way through tailoring my first outwear (Simplicity 5669 cape), this book is even more helpful than I first thought. I have referred to it constantly through pressing, padstitching, clipping and trimming, and now hemming the body of my cape. I'm guessing I'll be leaning on it as much while I line - along with the Guide to Sewing Linings.

Sewing 101 is compact, not quite encyclopedic, but rather a cute beginner's guide. The accompanying disc (DVD) is a bonus, and the price is nice, about 12.00 USD. The book is spiral bound, so it lays perfectly flat. There are a lot of good photographs, which are very helpful. A good guide for a beginning sewer.

This book covers almost every sewing project imaginable using step-by-step photos with instructions. The instructions are thorough and the photos are good quality. The fabrics, styles, and designs in the photos seem dated despite the somewhat current copyright. However, the instructions are for standard sewing techniques, which never seem to become outdated. I would recommend purchasing this book if you are a beginner. It would be a great reference book to keep near the sewing machine.

has some great info I hadn't heard before, still not a catfisherman, but did learn quite abit about it. Still don't agree with noodling though.
