I love paranormal M/M romance, so I eagerly ordered this when it popped up under recommended also. It has a nice twist that is not too common – two alpha werewolves attracted, rather than the standard dominant/submissive. However, after finishing it, I was torn over whether to give it three stars or four. Three because it left me sad, despite the HEA. Four because it was so well written.

Most romances introduce drama or tension into the relationship to build a story. Too often for my taste show more it is based solely on angst; here, the author gave the couple a more substantial, albeit tragic, plotline. Hayden and Josh have been apart for five years following one disastrous night that destroyed Hayden’s life and his trust in Josh. A night he doesn’t even remember. Now, the Elders have requested they become mates to unite their warring clans. Can they heal enough to do so? I won’t spoil it here, but the storyline was just too dark for me, leaving a pall of sadness over the HEA.

Overall, this was a well written book with good characterization of the two protagonists and a comfortable paranormal setting. And I continued thinking about it after finishing, which is usually a good sign. Though this one was dark, I enjoyed it enough that I would definitely read another book in what I expect will be a “Forces of Nature” series.

"...and what I really imagine is a fairy tale. And that's what I've got. I've got the fairy tale because I've got Maxwell Daniels right here in my arms."

I'm not sure fully why I liked this so much, but it had a certain dream-like quality to it that I really loved. And it was so sweet and emotional--I could just taste their love--while also going through the panic and nerves that Hunter feels. The way they fit together was perfect, too. It was a very nicely rounded story.

At first, I felt show more like I was missing out on experiencing the beginning of their friendship and later, relationship, but then, it went to a couple of flashbacks that filled in that last little bits I was missing to understand Hunter and Max completely. They're just meant for each other, that's all there is to it. This story is great because it made me feel that to the extent I did.

Plus, I'm on the beach in Florida for vacation right now, as well, and I'll be going home to the SF Bay Area next week (not LA, but close enough), so that tickled me a bit extra too.

4 stars. Really enjoyed this one (more than the first book, actually). Hunter and Max are just so much in love. I felt like the story dragged a little in the middle (not that it wasn't interesting, I just wasn't sure what else they had to work out between them). Loved the characters, the sex was smokin', and besides my slight niggle, thoroughly enjoyed the story. Recommended! (though you should read the first book in the series first!)
Utterly defeated by the purple prose. If you like KJ Charles or even Joanna Chambers, this is not like it. The book reads like someone took an old letter for language reference, then proceeded to write EVERYTHING in the style of the very, very flowery closing.

I liked the basic idea, but apart from the writing style it's just too "I want you/nooo I can't", especially seeing that one MC fucking hired the other one to finally have sex with a man, and so far the whole book is a drawn out show more description after the other of one tiny step ahead in the teenage making out, then a lot of introspection and drama about that one step. And I'm talking about a kiss, a buttgrope, a first hickey here - all this between an alleged king and an allegedly trained concubine, and nothing makes any sense.

Fans of classic bodice rippers might like this, I'm not sure. Not for me, though.
