Short biography
Arne Grøn (born 1 October 1952 in Silkeborg) is a Danish philosopher.

Grøn studied philosophy in Copenhagen and at the Free University of Berlin and has been Professor of Ethics and Philosophy of Religion at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Copenhagen since 1996. In Germany, he became known primarily through his book Anxiety in Søren Kierkegaard: An Introduction to His Thought, translated from Danish.

Professor Arne Grøn is a distinguished Danish philosopher specializing in ethics and philosophy of religion. He holds a professorship at the University of Copenhagen, where he has significantly contributed to the academic community.

In 2002, Professor Grøn co-founded the Center for Subjectivity Research (CFS) alongside Professors Dan Zahavi and Josef Parnas. The center was established to facilitate systematic exploration of subjectivity through an interphilosophical and interdisciplinary approach. Initially funded as a "Center of Excellence" by the Danish National Research Foundation from 2002 to 2012, CFS has continued to host various externally funded research projects and is currently part of the Department of Media, Cognition, and Communication at the University of Copenhagen.

Professor Grøn's scholarly work primarily focuses on existential philosophy, phenomenology, and ethics, with a particular emphasis on Søren Kierkegaard's authorship. His recent publication, "Thinking with Kierkegaard: Existential Philosophy, Phenomenology, and Ethics," comprises 35 essays written over three decades. These essays combine meticulous analysis of Kierkegaard's texts with contemporary philosophical issues, presenting Kierkegaard's work as a critical development of Hegelian phenomenology, especially regarding existential aspects of human experience.

In 2013, Professor Grøn received a grant of DKK 5,305,042 from the VELUX FOUNDATION for a research project titled "Self-understanding and Self-alienation: Existential Hermeneutics and Psychopathology." This project aimed to investigate the relationship between self-understanding and identity, particularly in the context of mental disorders such as schizophrenia and affective illnesses, as well as traumatic conditions following torture. The research sought to clarify how radical forms of self-alienation characterize these conditions and to contribute to a better understanding of human self-understanding.

Through his extensive research and publications, Professor Grøn has made significant contributions to the fields of philosophy, ethics, and the study of subjectivity, particularly in relation to existential and phenomenological perspectives.
