Autism expert Chantal Sicile-Kira and her autistic son Jeremy provide a candid, reassuring and eminently practical guide that embraces the journey from teen to adulthood. Proactive, positive and highly readable, A FULL LIFE WITH AUTISM is an essential resource for young adults, family and professionals. It breaks daunting goals into show more manageable, doable tasks. Chock full of checklists and resources, it provides step-by-step ideas for transition planning, self-determination, social relationships, love and intimacy, living arrangements and support staff, post-secondary education, and employment. Autism Spectrum Disorder (revised): The Complete Guide to Understanding Autism by Chantal Sicile-Kira
As someone who works with children on the Autism Spectrum, this was a very informative book that gives a nice overview of topics related to Autism. Sicile-Kira notes that her information is in no way meant to be exhaustive, which I would agree with, but it is a good place to start. It also includes some great resources specifically for teachers, parents, siblings, ect., which is very helpful. Overall, a perfect book to start learning about and understanding ASDs.
Autism Spectrum Disorders: The Complete Guide to Understanding Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Diso by Chantal Sicile-Kira
This is a great resource guide and general overview to the world of autism. That's all it is though.
This guide offers parents strategies for helping their children, whatever their ability level, through the changes of the teenage years, and to prepare them for adulthood. Using examples, advice and insights, it covers: preparing for life after secondary school; the specific health risks of adolescence, such as seizures and depression; and teenage emotions, puberty, sexuality, appropriate relationships and dating.
