I'm perfectly willing to shell out a large amount of money for a good cookbook when it is as well-written and intriguing as this one. In addition to amazing recipes from Philadelphia's City Tavern, the numerous prefaces and introductions on the history of City Tavern, 18th-c Philadelphian gastronomy, and other such topics make this a wonderful cookbook just to sit and read.
Its a very pretty book - photographs of every recipe, and if you like solid, comfort food you might really like this book.

I can't say that I'll be using many of these recipes, but there are a few I hope to test out! Regardless, it's interesting to learn what early Americans would have enjoyed eating.
