Drawn to this book by its dust jacket cover photo of a red Stutz-Bearcat, I picked it up off my local library's sell-off shelf. It's filled with great photos taken by its author, Ralph Stein, and when I began reading the book I found it to be well-crafted and surprisingly entertaining. Its pages include interesting anecdotes -- some informative and others quite amusing -- on the tinkerers and inventors of the first American-built automobiles.
At the time this was published (1967), this was a premium introduction to many classic cars. It was the sole reference I had at the time to the rare sports car I bought in 1975.
