- Elaine Kidner Dakers was a distant descendant of the Jane Lane who sheltered Charles II following his defeat at the Battle of Worcester in 1651, and adopted this as a pen name for her historical writing. Her first novel was published when she was 17. She wrote more than 40 works of history, biography, and fiction for adults, as well as books for children. Her best-known books focused on the Stuart period and 18th century Scotland, written from a Catholic and Royalist perspective.
