Before reading this I had never heard of the Green Book, the Black American travelers’ guide to accommodations where they would not be refused service. As an overview of the Green Book's years of publication, 1936 to 1966, Driving the Green Book was a well-written history of how it came about and the reasons why it was needed, but as a road trip book this fell short. I think that’s because it's part of a multi‑media production that includes a BBC Radio 4 program, a ten‑episode show more podcast series, and a short film documentary. It reads like the by‑product of those other productions instead of the ‘road trip through the living history of Black resistance’ promised in its subtitle. show less
Judging by its cover, Show Me the Money might perplex many parents and librarians. Happily, the book presents a balanced and engaging look at economics. The design of the book is exceptional, making what might otherwise be dry topics very readable. Two unexpected inclusions are a section called 'The Best Things In Life Are Free' and an explanation of Marx's ideas.

Young readers simply have to appreciate the straighforwardness of this book. It takes a dry topic and makes it interesting and relevant by sharing current trends, philosophies and ideals about money and economics. By sharing the historical aspect of money and trading, readers can appreciate the money trends of the past and compare them to the modern world in which they live (and do business). The colourful pages are packed with information but presented in a student friendly way with both show more text and explanatory pictures. The Table of Contents, Glossary and Index offer students quick references if needed. This particular edition has a hard cover and sturdy binding - perfect for the school library. Overall, this is a great book to introduce money & economics to tweens and teens. show less
Summary:
Show Me the Money addresses all the world topics of business, money and economics in a language that is understanding to children. This informational text starts by uncovering what money is, why we need to save it, and the worth of the purchases that we make. Children will learn where money has started and where it have evolved to. After understanding all that there is to know about money in its entirety, the book goes on to discuss every aspect of economics between taxes and "how to show more be a billionaire."

Review:
Show Me the Money addresses the topics of the world that many children do not even know exist until they are expected to understand them. Though the content of the book may seem to be highly sophisticated, many children are interested in these many topics that they may hear their parents or other adults discussing. Many schools are engaging economics and stock markets into their classroom lessons and this book is a great way for a child to get a background knowledge of all of these complex topics. Each section addresses questions that children are constantly curious about, such as "what is interest and how does it make your money grow?"
