It is with some surprise I discover this book can still be found on sale. One would think that the intervening fifty-four years would have provided enough new material in the field of verbal warfare to create another relatively standard work. Sadly, apparently not! Enjoy these intellectual bombshells, and as many others have done, tuck them away for use in your own disputations.

Began reading; learned some interesting things about the Filene and the Straus families.

But...far too many details... of everyone's every thought, business idea, business transaction, relationship, what they read, liked eating, who they married, divorced, re-married, where they travelled and who they met, how they raised their children, what they believed religiously and politically, the differences between brothers, etc. You get the idea.

Overwhelming. Would have been much better if it had show more been condensed and simplified. show less
I love when there are different versions of traditional books. I have the Redneck Night Before Christmas in my children's collection of books at home, so reading a Texas version is just as fun! I think versions of books like this are great to get a look at how people celebrate different holidays and traditions, such as birthdays. It's a great look at the other cultures for people to just be apart of it, if it is just by reading the book. More people should take these types of traditional show more books and make the different versions for fun, I would read them to my children!! show less
I could not love this Texas-themed Christmas story and 1950's style illustrations more. It delighted me as a child and I am equally delighted in rediscovering it.
