I liked When I Feel Jealous for three reasons. First, I liked the plot of the story. The plot focused on a little bear who described situations in which she felt jealous. For example, “I feel jealous when I think my mommy likes someone else better than me.” I thought the plot was well written and a creative way to teach children about feelings of jealously. It shows children that it is normal to get jealous and that there are different ways to cope with the emotion. Second, I liked the show more language. The language used throughout the story is descriptive and follows a pattern. For example, “I feel jealous when someone is good at something I want to be good at. I feel jealous when my friend plays with someone else more than she plays with me. Jealously is a prickly, hot, horrible feeling.” The phrase “I feel jealous when…” is repeated throughout the story following a pattern to emphasize how the character feels and when she feels that way. Also, the descriptive word choice used to describe the emotion jealously is intriguing as it defines the word in a fun and unique way for young readers to comprehend. Lastly, I liked the illustrations. The illustration style fits the written text as it depicts the mood of the overall story. For example, “When someone has something I want, I feel jealous. I want it too!” The illustration following this sentence depicts the young bear feeling jealous and angry by the expression detailed on her face. It also depicts the young bear watching her friend play with something she clearly wants as well. The illustrations are done in watercolor, which adds more style to the story along with vibrant colors and aesthetic appeal. The big idea of the story is that everyone gets feelings of jealously at times, but the way one handles it is what is important. show less
Cornelia Maude helps child identify their feeling through an array of The Way I feel Books. In This book she uses wonderful pictures and simple words to depict a young hamster’s self-confidence about herself. It talks about being different from others, learning new things, making new friends and being loved makes you feel good about yourself.
This is a great picture book that makes it easy for kids to relate to. My preschools just loved it and sat very quite through the whole story. I show more think they were able to understand the book easily through the big detailed pictures that displayed tons of emotion.
We read it during “ I am special week “, at school, and they really loved talking about what made them feel good about themselves and how they were each special. I think it’s a good book to use with a theme like that and have the chance to tell what makes them feel good about themselves. We also made a “I am special” craft mirror, to see how special we all were. You could also have the child color a picture of what makes them feel good about themselves. show less

A better-looking package than "It's My Body" but I wish it also acknowledged that any touch that makes you feel uncomfortable should be reported. It does explain that some places should never be touched by others "except when you need help in the bathroom or getting dressed or when you go to the doctor."
The main message of this book is how to cope with anger, and that it is okay to be angry sometimes! I felt that the language in this book was clear and concise, and explained anger in a way that very young children could understand and relate to. Although the writing was in short sentences with only 1-2 sentences per page, it was still very descriptive. The author did a wonderful job of providing examples or situations that would make someone angry. There is the main character of a bunny, show more but this character is not really developed and simply serves as an example of how to handle anger that children can relate to. The plot was organized, and the story had a good flow to it. The illustrations of this book are beautiful. They were colored with colored pencil and you can really see the emotion in the characters faces even though they are animals. This book pushes readers to think about more uncomfortable feelings like anger and coping with our emotions. This book would be a great read for students with emotional issues as well as after a difficult situation arising in the classroom. show less
