The Dragon Codexes (codexi? codex? Ms. Yingling has enlightened me. It is codices) are companions to The Practical Guide to Dragons, much like the Dragon's Eye series (which they don't seem to have ever continued after the first volume. or no, I guess they've published the second. anyways, that's irrelevant).
Gold Dragon Codex is the latest, and I believe possibly the final in the series, but it's the first I've read, although I've skimmed The Practical Guide and it's quite popular in my show more library.
Sandon's home valley is threatened by a dangerous blue dragon and his father, the Baron, doesn't seem to be able to drive it away and continues to pay it tribute. But when Sandon extends hospitality to a wandering traveler, Kine, everything changes. Soon horrible secrets are being uncovered and Sandon no longer knows who to trust or believe.
This is a complex and richly imagined fantasy, with the various characters' motivations and secrets gradually revealed throughout the story. There's plenty of adventure and excitement, as well as dragon lore but there's also a strong emphasis on character. The reader's will follow the battle between the Baron and the evil dragon as breathlessly as they watch Sandon mature and take responsibility as he begins to see clearly what is happening around him.
The ending felt somewhat abrupt as all the threads were hastily tied together and some of the dialogue is a little stilted, but this is an excellent fantasy to hand to kids who love fantasy but aren't ready for the more lengthy and complex high fantasies like Paolini's Eragon series or LOTR (no, I'm not comparing the two, I'm just saying they're both long and complex).
Verdict: Recommended if you have plenty of middle grade fantasy fans - and who doesn't?

A red dragon name Redclaw attacks Mudd's village, burn the town and kidnap the village seer Shamnara. Mud found a note telling him to seek out the silver dragon. Mudd and his sister soon went on a quest looking for the silver dragon's pendant. This pendant could be use to ask for a wish. They would use the wish to defeat the red dragon and restore peace to their village and other towns that the Red Dragon destroy.
I like this book as it shows friendship, loyalty and working together as a show more team. I like how the dragons have different colors and how the book brings the dragon alive. The book was very descriptive and detail, where I would visualize what was happening. show less

The book, Silver Dragon Codex, is about a lady that doesn't remember her past and joins a circus. That is until the white robed wizard visits the circus and blames the destruction of a whole town on her and then says she is a silver dragon. The lady and some of her circus friends check out the destroyed town. When they get there however, all the citizens are werewolves because of the curse of a stolen “magic” stone. They run into the forest and continue fighting the werewolves. All of a show more sudden the lady turns into a silver dragon and the werewolves run off. The group makes it to a cave that they find belonged to the lady. She did attack the village, but only because of something that she couldn't remember. The group of friends goes back to the circus and finds out who stole the "magic" stone, it was the circus ringleader himself! The ringleader decides that there should be no witness and tries to kill them. The group survive and the ringleader tries to run but gets caught by the white wizard and put into jail.
This book is a good read when at school during seminar for the silent sustained reading time. It has colorful characters and a good background story. I like the way the story changes point of views during periods of the book. I think this book is good for dragon fans. There are different types of characters ranging from elves to white mages, even dragons, all with different personalities! Not really for teens and older age groups. Good word choice and theme of writing for 7th grade level. show less

Green Dragon Codex By R.D. Henham aka Clint Johnson
This book was a great read. Preteens will love the story. I enjoyed the writing and the easy way that the author pulled me into the story.
When a ten-year-old boy (who is always getting himself into trouble) finds a chest near a dead dragon his life takes on a whole new meaning. The chest contains a tablet and a rock that later becomes a green dragon. He falls in love with the little hatchling and protects him from all that want to kill it. show more Everyone says that green dragons are evil by nature, but he doesn't care, this dragon will be different... He manages to get himself, his brother and a friend in dire troubles with a black wizard that almost cost them their lives.
Recommended to dragons lovers everywhere and all who love fantasy. show less
