Hero of Hacksaw Ridge is about a conscientious objector who decides to serve in the Army during WW2. Because of his Christian upbringing, he decides that he doesn't want to use weapons, so he becomes a medic. Many members of his division think that he is a wimp because he won't kill, and he is ridiculed and teased. But when the troops go to war, they see just how good he is at being a medic. He saves many soldiers in enemy fire, and is eventually wounded himself. After getting shrapnel in show more the back and a fractured arm, he is sent back to the states, where he gets the medal of honor as well as the purple heart. I personally enjoyed this book a lot. Most people think of heroes as the people who do all the killing, but this proves them wrong.. He doesn't touch weapon once, but still participates in many campaigns in the pacific, and comes home a hero, despite not killing anyone. I enjoy this book because of those simple reasons. show less

Bergdorf's on the Plaza: The Story of Bergdorf Goodman and a Half-Century of American Fashion by Booton Herndon
Bought as a Christmas present for my sister, but had it delivered early so I could read it before wrapping. Any fan of NYC Fifth Avenue will thoroughly enjoy this book. It takes you back to when department stores were at their prime, However, specialty stores like Bon Wit's, Altman's, and others are all gone now, they were the preferred store of the society ladies who lunch. Bergdorf survives which makes this story so relatable. If you get the urge, you can always stop by to breathe the show more rarified air as you wind your way through merchandise to get to the elevators. show less
