Like any collection, some of these articles are better than others, but on the whole, a very nice set of reflections on the role of baseball in American culture and belief. Standouts include Tex Sample's personal essay near the end, and the reexamination of Shoeless Joe Jackson.
Detailed and engaging. The history of baseball and its influence upon our culture and society is quite interesting - something I've always noted but never read such a lengthy account on. Several selections proved more interesting to me than others, but this was overall a good read for fans of baseball, history, church history, America... and the big old pot where they're all mixed together.
