One of the great (opinion) conservatives in the art world, Ruckstull attacks "modern art" with a ferosity and singleness of purpose that is almost frightening. 'It (the movement towards abstraction" will be the death of art as we know it." (my paraphrase). I'm not sure if he was right or not? Any opinions?
What makes a work of Art great? Plato and Aristotle named the True, the Good and the Beautiful as the fundamental basis of great art. The author founded the National Sculpture Society and in 1916 a magazine, "The Art World", in an attempt to educate people as to what true art is, and to try to stop the acceptance of "Modernism", which was basically every art movement after 1860. This book is a selection of essays from "The Art World", most of which were written by himself, with assistance show more from other artists of like mind.
