a really unusual book. the crime story is interesting enough as it is. what I found really interesting is the description of early 20th century Hannover as a place where large numbers of adolescence would run away from their homes, hang around seedy parts of town and disappear without a trace. Additionally interesting is the fact that Lessing was a party to these proceedings having been expelled from the trial for its reporting, indicting the Hannover police for its prior involvement with show more the murderer. show less
