Several elements make this fast-paced and funny short story more than just another brief erotic encounter. There is the perfect writing, the vivid sensory detail, and the first-person narrator’s cheeky sense of humor. His risky behavior mixed with his delight at his own decadence reminds me very favorably of author Anne Brooke’s Delaney series. I would love to see more romance authors writing erotic comedy such as this. Just so you know, the author adds the following sentence to her show more blurb: “This is a pure, unapologetic erotica short story, which contains no hint or promise of romance.”
The story opens with an attractive young guy Don who sits in the lobby of a dating service, filling out a questionnaire. At first, he’s surprised at the explicit nature of the questions he is supposed to answer. Then, a sense of mischief drives him to embellish his answers to make himself sound like a sexual adventurer with no limits. He hopes he will at least get a few promising match-ups with his exaggerated profile. However, his answers catch the attention of the man who runs the agency. This dominant and handsome man (with his eager assistant) lures Don into a back room for a special, sexual audition to join the Romeo Club. Don’s life will never be the same.

No one writes better historical novels than Brita Addams so it comes as absolutely no surprise that her latest release, Beloved Unmasked, is another brilliantly written and well researched gay romance. Spanning several years, this first installment in the Cherished One series takes place in New Orleans and features David Reid's journey from abused son of a prostitute to well-respected lawyer.
Despite his humble beginnings and the abuse at the hands of his mother, David Reid (aka Picayune) show more remains optimistic and determined to make a better life for himself. He is well respected by everyone he meets and he is not afraid of hard work. He has people looking out for him who encourage him to get an education so he can take a different career path. Once he makes it out of the district and realizes his dreams, David never forget those who helped him and he remains loyal to them long after everyone has moved on.
Growing up in the red light district, David is no stranger to sex, but he wants more than quick, meaningless sexual encounters. His relationship with rent boy Spencer Webb is full of laughter and although David's feelings run deeper than friendship, Spence holds him at arms' length. Spence's own past is troubled yet he manages to remain light, carefree and accepting of his fate. When the US enters World War I, Spencer is conscripted into service then sent to France in the months leading up to the end of the war.
However, the person who has the most influence on David's life is Emile Dauterive. A successful lawyer with political aspirations, Spence introduces the two men and when David strikes out on his own, Emile offers to help him achieve his goals. Emile has David's best interests at heart and he provides him with a place to live, a job and the money to go college. He wants nothing in return except friendship and David graciously and eagerly accepts his conditions. Although he sometimes oversteps in an effort to protect David from getting hurt, Emile cares deeply for him and their friendship easily weathers a few storms.
Beloved Unmasked by Brita Addams is an engaging rags to riches story that is well-researched and stars a cast of memorable characters. The novel is impeccably researched and rife with historical details that bring the time period, characters and setting vibrantly to life. With unexpected plot twists and the tiniest hint of drama, this first installment in the Cherished One series is a captivating tale that readers of historical gay romances do not want to miss. An outstanding novel that I absolutely loved and highly recommend. show less

It’s true, this is only a short story, barely a sex scene; it’s true it’s mostly about the sex and that is usually not my cup of tea; it’s true, it’s not a romance, even if I can see an interesting future for Don. But despite all the above trues, I found myself truly enjoying this fast reading, and yes, it was also arousing, a clean cut sex scene with the right amount of kink but also with some “sweet” touches (see the kisses and the cuddling).
Don is not searching for Mr Right show more while filling the form of Romeo Club, a dating services. So he decides to answer to the question in a way that will assure him to get laid, without limit on what he is willing to do. What probably he is not expecting is that his form will be greatly appreciated, so much that he will be taken for a “test drive” right there, right now. Blake, the club’s owner, will gift Don with the best sex of his life and after that he will open to the guy the door to an almost “paradise”, only that in this paradise, angels have sex!
As I said, this is not a romance, and Don will not find Mr Right, but I think there are good chance for him to get lucky again and maybe, one day or the other, he will stumble upon that elusive Mr Right. But while he is waiting, why not enjoying what Romeo Club’s special chapter is offering?
Good short story, fast and quick, but with a well written sex (that is not easy thing to do).

Jack Abadie was in search of a new life when he left his small town for the glamour of Hollywood. And he was surprised to not only find success but also find Wyatt Maitland, someone who couldn't be more made for him if Jack had built him from scratch himself. The two navigate a world that needs them but refuses to understand them at the same time, seeking to make a life when odds seem to be ever stacked against them. A charming story about secrets that may have been more common in the early show more days of Hollywood than we will ever truly know. show less
