I've seen a lot of books entitled "gardening hints" or something similar, but this is the first one worth keeping. Most hint books are difficult to use because either they fail to organize at all or they digress, e.g. veering off into multiple unrelated uses for some common substance or item, and if you ever want to find a hint again you are out of luck. This one is organized pretty much like a straightforward guide to gardening, and if you want to get some suggestions about (say) growing show more beans, you turn to the section on vegetables and there they are in alphabetical order: flip, flip, there you are. And the suggestions are quite useful. Even an experienced gardener is likely to find something new and worth trying. Each chapter ends with a list of the experts who contributed to it, and their (impressive) credentials. This is a book to keep handy on the reference shelf. show less
This would be a good reference book for beginners who are interested in starting a bird garden, as it has plenty of feeder projects, recipes for bird feeding, and other bird-related information included. For those of us who have been watching birds and creating habitats for years, it's pretty elementary stuff, but still worth a look.
Nice easy read for anyone looking to up their gardening game and store their own seeds. Goes through easy, moderate, and challenging seeds to harvest and includes visual diagrams when necessary. I would recommend to the intermediate level gardener.
Saving Vegetable Seeds: Harvest, Clean, Store, and Plant Seeds from Your Garden. A Storey Basics® Title

This is the book for any beginner who wants to save vegetable seeds. The book has step by step directions making it easy for anyone to save the vegetables they desire. There was good information on how the plants pollinate and step you can take to avoid cross pollination from other varieties and GMO’s.

I went back to use this later when checking on saving some seeds. This will be an show more indispensable addition to my seed saving guide if you are just starting to save vegetable seeds but are not into the breeding aspect of seed saving you will not go wrong with this guide. show less
