Reviews
An outstanding introduction to European military conflicts in the 17th century.. Modern readers may be a bit put off by a lack of footnotes and references, but this 55 year old book deserves a place on any historians shelf.
I believe this work is respected by scholars in the field, but personally I found it undulty sympathetic to Louis. Wolf argues that
in effect nobody ever told Louis aggressive war was wrong, but in fact several people, e.g. Fenelon, did tell him.
