This is a book about finding oneself. Following Thoreau's example, Owen-Towle takes off into the woods of California in search of spiritual renewal. He learns that the point of life is primarily to show up, take our seats, and pay attention. The fundamental religious act is astonishment.
Recognizing that gender is a social construct, the authors intend their "bridge building" as a project that can be undertaken anywhere women and men must work together - in romantic as well as nonromantic relationships, among transgendered individuals, in religious communities and in the workplace. Included are incisive discussion/writing activities and questions, as well as a full sample schedule of an intensive weekend workshop with helpful hints, ground rules, readings and exercises.
An primer on the ministry that is psychologically wise, theologically deep, and humanly warm that is a must read for laity and clergy alike.
Men are learning how to be playful, find rest and renewal, have buddies, grow tender, walk beside women, remove masks, confront fears, find meaning, consent to die, leave a lasting legacy, and much more.
