This is a retelling of the classic Jack and the Beanstalk. This colorful rendition will take children on a journey alongside Jack as he finds himself in a magical world filled with a golden-egg laying goose, a magic harp, and a fearsome giant.
This book was a refreshing take on an old classic.
I would use this book as an anytime book. I think that it would especially be good to read just before nap time. Also, when in our plant module, we could read this story and then plant our own "magical show more beans." show less

A new version of Jack and the Beanstalk, but with the old base still there. The illustrations with the beans and the people give this classic an updated fun flare. The giant still chases Jack down the beanstalk, but instead of chopping the stalk down he uses a rope to catapult the giant into space.
This is one of my all time favorite books for boys. We own several Barefoot Books, which come with an audio CD. The stories are fanciful and often have a message. The vocabulary is appropriate for children ages 4 and up. The beauty of these books is after reading some of the stories to your child, he or she can listen to them over and over on the CD, building vocabulary and proper written word usage.
Jack and the Beanstalk (Book & CD) by Richard Walker (Illustrated, 6 Mar 2006) Paperback by Richard Walker
A retelling of the original Jack and the Beanstalk. It is a tale of a boy who climbed to the top of a magic beanstalk to escape from a giant. This can be used for many occasions in the classroom, one being that children create their own version of the story. It can direct great discussions as well revolving around the theme of being able to know what is right and what is wrong.
